The Lost Childhood
Here’s an awakening English poem I’ve written for your theme “Lost Childhood”: 🌱 Lost Childhood Once I ran barefoot on fields of green, Chasing butterflies in sunlight’s sheen. Laughter echoed through the open skies, Innocence glowing in curious eyes. Now screens replace the grassy ground, Silent rooms where no giggles sound. Plastic toys with batteries hum, But the warmth of mud has never come. We traded marbles for mobile games, Forgotten friendships, forgotten names. The swing stands still, the kite won’t fly, The playground waits with a longing sigh. Homework piles, and endless tests, A tender soul rarely gets rest. Childhood stolen by pressure’s hand, Dreams sink deep like footprints in sand. The river of stories has ceased to flow, Grandma’s tales we no longer know. Books are closed, and bedtime’s gone, Sleep is stolen by screens till dawn. Yet somewhere inside, a voice still pleads, Return to trees, to soil, to seeds. Run in the rain, let laughter grow, Let childhood’s rhythm once more flow. For life is fleeting, like a song, Childhood days don’t last too long. Awake, O world, and make amends, Give back the joy where ends. Poet___Vijay Sharma Erry.
