The Hug I Never Had
I watch people hug like it is the easiest thing in the world, arms wrapping around shoulders as if they have always belonged there. They close their eyes for a second, like they have found home in another person's heartbeat. And I wonder, what does it feel like? Is it warm like sunlight on a quiet morning? Does the world go silent when someone holds you close? Do the pieces inside your chest finally stop rattling for a moment? I try to imagine it, two arms around me, not letting go too quickly, not asking anything from me. I imagine resting my head against someone who doesn't move away. Maybe a hug is the closest thing to saying you are safe here without using words Just once, I want to know what it feels like to be held like I matter.
