The Hollow Man p.2
I would get these flashes of memory. Full of color and wonder. Then everything is back to dull numbness. One step in front of the other. With the others. Left. Right. Marching or wandering. Lost. Left. Right. Right, Trip, BOOM Memory flashes before my eyes, A woman getting sick. A spark of sadness, Or the memory of sadness Plays with my heart. Then it's gone. I get up and continue shambling with the others. Why should I care about my past? It's gone. Nothing matters. I don't matter. Left. Right. We all stop as we hear a crackle of the loud speakers turn on. 'The Hollow Men are migrating, we suggest everyone to go into lock down.' As the last words ring through the street, we start our wandering. Left. Right. Click, click, BOOM. Gunshot goes off. I fall. Flash of that memory again. 'Avard don't tell your father...you know how he gets with those conspiracies. Here's the money, see if THEY can do anything about that rash of yours.' She coughs as I leave. The memory starts to fade, I hear a lullaby being sung by her. 'I have hope in the future, I have hope in the lord, and I have hope he will watch over my sweet little Elpis.'
