The High School Years.
You gave me that ring, You promised me the world... Now it stings With the words that you have hurled... They say, 'It was just a fling' With the 'love,' you lied... But with pride, I stride, For I am no longer tied To the lies you spread It made me wish I were dead... I am sixteen now, Have the world ahead, As I walk, you bow With the words unsaid... As I look, You moved on, and so have I. This new man, the Earth he shook, With every 'Hi' or 'Goodbye' He has me hooked, I don't have to ask 'why?' I finally found the one! My High School Sweetheart! My heart, he has won, I don't have to restart. But then again... Will he run? He is my 'Ken' But I cannot outrun The past I know, Which has no place to go... "He loves me! He loves me!" I shout aloud, But can't you see? He loves me, for me... And I am proud!
