THE GHOST OF ME
I look down at her Her innocence still shining in her eyes Her brown eyes twinkle in the light Untouched by the ugliness of this world Oh, she has no idea what it has become She looks up at me Her eyes full of expectations She has so many questions Did she become who she wanted to be? Did she accomplish any dream? Did she improve for the better? Did she become wiser? The light in her eyes dim Her twinkle fades away What had led to this? Watching her, my heart ached Disappointment a bitter taste in her throat It matched my own And she thought, "What went wrong?" I could only watch her sad face I recognized that sad face everywhere Our features were the same Of course, it would... 'cause it's me She's me Just more childish, innocent and naïve A version of me I wish i could take back But it's impossible to move back I have so much to tell her "I'm sorry" I tell her. Neglecting you wasn't my intention Throwing you away wasn't my resolution I'm sorry for changing so much I'm sorry for changing for the worse It's not too late But she has already faded away
