The Fragments of My Soul
In countless parts my soul doth lie, Scattered beneath the endless sky. No greater curse than life I find, Nor cruelty more cruel defined. In fragments, my essence torn asunder, Lost in depths of ceaseless wonder. Once whole, now broken, cast adrift, No solace found, no spirit lift. Each sorrow claimed a piece of me, Each fleeting joy, a mockery. Now but a shadow, pale and faint, A ghostly form, a voiceless plaint. At every crossroad, there I stand, A wanderer in a foreign land. What fate hath wrought, what wretched plight, To seek myself in endless night. In myriad shards my being lies, Beneath the vast and hollow skies. No punishment in life compares, Nor cruelty that more deeply scars.
