The Fragile Thread of Attachme
I fear attachment, yet long for it still, A fragile thread that tests my will. For those I hold close, I dread they’ll part, Leaving behind an aching heart. Whether by death’s cold, inevitable hand, Or the shifting tides of life’s vast land, The ones I love may fade away, Turning bright bonds into shades of gray. I crave the warmth of love’s embrace, But fear the sorrow time might trace. Each connection, a double-edged sword, Bringing joy, but pain is the reward. So I build walls, keep distance near, Protecting my heart from the loss I fear. Yet in the quiet, I feel the strain, Of a heart that yearns, but guards its pain. In this dance of love and fear, I hold back the tears that never appear. For attachment’s gift is bittersweet, A fleeting joy with an end we meet. So I tread carefully, step by step, In the spaces where attachment is kept. For in this world, nothing truly stays, And the ones I love may soon part ways.
