The Facade
In the spotlight, I shine brightest in my gloom But darkness descends when I'm alone in my room Reflected in the mirror, a mask conceals my truth A different persona emerges for my parents' view I climbed higher, fueled by ambition's fire Fell behind, but hid my struggles, never tire Moments of despair, I lay in quiet pain Atonement's weight, a burden I couldn't explain I played the part, concealing every flaw An escapist's art, hiding behind a guise But destiny pursued me down an unchosen path At my final rest, my secrets were laid bare at last Transparent, vulnerable, no more escape The longest breath I held, finally, I let go The facade crumbled, revealing my true self A full stop to the performance, no more pretending wealth
