the echo's lament
I carved your name in the hollows of my heart, A sacred hymn sung in the shadow's art. Your laughter lit a sky I could never reach, A flame too bright for my trembling speech. Your eyes, twin galaxies, endless and vast, Held dreams of a future I was never cast. I memorized the way your breath kissed the air, Praying you'd one day notice I was there. But love, I learned, is not always returned, A cruel pyre where the lovelorn are burned. My soul became a home for aching storms, Shaped by a longing that never transforms. You walked in colors I could never see, A masterpiece painted without me. I whispered devotion to the winds of the night, But my words died silent, lost in their flight. Each step I took toward you, you moved away, A mirage of love I chased each day. Your smile was my sun, my life, my guide, But it never shone for the shadow by your side. So I became a ghost of a love untold, A story unfinished, a heart grown cold. Yet still, I pray, in some distant year, You’ll turn and see the love that was always near. But until then, I’ll carry this pain, A bitter rain that whispers your name. For one-sided love is the cruelest plight— A light that blinds, but is never your light.
