The Echo in the Empty Room
The clock hands crawl, each tick a leaden sigh, Another hour where only shadows lie. The house is large, but all the space is cold, A silent story waiting to be told. I walk the halls, and every single pane Reflects a heart that's battered by the rain. I try to read, but words just blur and fade, Into the picture of the life we made. A phantom touch upon my weary arm, A whispered name that wards off all alarm, But it's an echo, thin and far away, A memory of what was yesterday. I wear your sweater, scent is faint and sweet, A fragile comfort that I can't complete. I see your smile in every passing face, And search for yours in this deserted place. This aching gap, where you are meant to be, A chasm carved in the core of me. I long to tell you of the day I've spent, The silly thoughts and burdens heaven-sent. To rest my head upon your steady chest, And know at last, this lonely soul can rest. I am alone, and though the stars still shine, They cannot light this empty space that once was mine. Vinci
