The dream I fear

The words hang heavy in the air my heart laid bare, my soul exposed But as you look at me, I see a distance in your eyes enclosed "I'm sorry" softly falls from your lips that once spoke laughter, joy, and grace "I can't return the love you feel and fear our friendship will erase" The world collapses, shatters, breaks The bond we had now slips away the silence echoes in my mind a bitter price we both must pay You turn and walk and with each step the space between us grows so wide the dreams I held within my heart now crumble, fade, and slowly die Alone I stand amidst the shards of what was once a cherished tie I feel the tears, the stinging pain and wonder how to say goodbye But as the tears begin to fall I wake to find its just a dream the room is quiet, still, and dark yet hope still flickers, faint, unseen In truth, I wait for your reply The words unspoken, yet to hear The fear remains, but so does hope and in this moment, love is near I breathe a sigh, a chance remains the future still unwritten lies. And though the risk still grips my heart I hold to hope that never dies The dawn will bring another day a chance to see what fate will send and whether love will bloom or fade I'll cherish you my dearest friend
