The Dead Girl And I Within
The pendulum swings this way and that A girl is dying. The sand falls away, Time clawing, A girl is dying. Rain rewinds Then ascends leaving the internal war Inhaling and choking, Death will win I stand inside her, breathing our blood Scars her sleeves could never hide from me I grasp her heart I risk her loss when fear overcomes me When I break. Her heart shatters in us Our cold body drenched in sweat A girl is dying. Held trapped and bruised in my chains Drink in the dread, drown in it Ghostly touch Outside a thin, fading gold of perfection For the mother and father who present her A trophy, a prize, a puppet Erasing, redrawing, crushing, remolding herself Invisible efforts never seen My tired, dying love inside, acidic and sweet A girl is dying. Touch and she lights, aflame She rises from her ashes each time. A hundred million times Aching bones and dimming glow As much as I can give her from within It was all expelled under pressure Late nights, dark eyes, lifelessly Alone, with me, watching from inside
