The Date We Died
I remember that day like it just happened His little body so battered and broken Blood and dust covered us both I will never forget that day it happened Having to carry him Was the heaviest weight I ever had to hold As I carried him towards the hole I felt my knees groan My shoulders strained My collarbones bowed I will never forget the 16th of September Because it was the day We both died I just had to bury myself on the inside I don't talk about the date he died In my arms I had to tell him to go His little body was so battered and broke I hope he didn't hate me for wanting him to die Just so he no longer felt pain inside I hope he didn't hate me for not trying to help him Rush him to the vet's office I don't talk about that day we died It's not my mother's or father's burden to carry It's mine That's the second heaviest weight I ever held the first was him On the day we died
