The Creaking Hours
The Creaking Hours by Jack A.S. Dunce I woke up to a creaking noise Intruding into dreams That I forgot what 'twas about Like evanescing steam. Denial willed my eyes to close; Desperate for more sleep And to reclaim the threads of dreams I hoped I still could keep. The noise continued to persist. A droning hum joined in. I sought refuge under pillows, Too thin to cage the din. A few eternal minutes trapped In sleep deprived limbo Where each clock tick puts out a thud, In full swing allegro. And the alarm began to shriek -- The coda resounding. 'twas time to wake up tired once more. I stirred, my bed creaking. ©️pgmr 12/22/2024
