The Chosen
Today the mirror refused a reflection. "Now's the time to choose: identity or connection." A blindfold is knotted, pulled till your blood vessels burst. "Follow the leader - don't question the verses you've rehearsed." Soft sponges hug dancing bubbles to your skin. "We have to make sure you're clean before we cleanse you of sin..." In the softest of white fabrics - we stand, our hands entwined. "The holiest among you will be offered to the divine." The ink is drawn into your skin as proof of your faith. "Dedication is a virtue, let the unbelievers turn to wraiths..." They found your letters sent beyond the community... Run. "Do you understand what you've done?" Is there such a thing as being too nice? This is getting weird... "Sister - the chosen one! We're glad you volunteered!" This doesn't feel very sacred or divine. "Come here... Lie down, and drink the wine..." They pull out a silver blade... "The gods will be thankful for this humble trade..."
