The child of a prisoner
The child of a prisoner is a prisoner, too Different chains, same surnames Bars made up of lies combined with truth We've found ourselves in a room filled with all kinds of pains The child of a prisoner is a prisoner, too Your hurt equals my hurt, which equals generational scars You say you want out, just join the queue The only light in the room comes from echoes of the stars The child of a prisoner is a prisoner too I'm not saying that I don't see your pain I'm not saying that I'm blind to your black and blue All I'm asking is why me, exactly what did you gain Why did your pain have drip and drop into my cup Why did your hurt have to cut my wings Why did your motherly hands keep me from getting up Why did you tell me that agony is only thing this world brings There is a fire in your eyes A flame that I know all too well It keeps me terrified Inside of my soft shell I tried to frer you from this place I tried to grab your hand and run But you released me from the embrace And then I heard a shot from a gun And then I realized that you were the gun I realized that you were the prison I had to run You would not listen I cannot save you I can only save me I cannot hold you I need to break free.
