The Blessing I Didn’t Keep
The Blessing I Didn’t Keep I called you a blessing because that is what you were. I asked God for you and heaven answered. But answers do not always mean they are meant to stay. Someone else holds what I once prayed for. So I hope she knows how rare your heart is. I hope she learns the language of your quiet. We stayed close enough to call each other best friends, close enough to know each other’s fears, yet never close enough to cross the line that love kept drawing for us. I never loved you out loud. I loved you in decisions. In restraint. In the courage it took to choose your future over my longing. I said no while knowing exactly what my heart wanted. I did not want my disability to stand like a shadow over your dreams, or become a question you felt responsible to answer. So I stepped aside. Not from lack of love, but from too much of it. My love did not disappear because timing failed us. It learned how to exist inside friendship, without being chosen
