The Architect of Ruin
She built a fortress out of breath, A sanctuary made of lies, And swore she’d walk the road to death With nothing hidden in her eyes. She spoke of honor, deep and wide, A bond no storm could ever shake, While counting out the coins inside For every promise she would break. The nectar of her silver tongue Was sweetened with a secret gall; The higher that her praises rung, The further she prepared the fall. She watched the trap begin to close With all the patience of a saint, A thorn hidden beneath the rose, A toxin underneath the paint. Now silence is the only sound Where once her hollow vows were gold. She left me on the frozen ground To trade the warmth for what was cold. It wasn't that she lacked the heart, Or that she failed to play the friend; She simply mastered every part To ensure I reached a bitter end.
