The Ache of Almost
I almost touched the morning sun, But shadows fell — and I came undone. A breath away, a whispered win, I stood with hope, half door in. It flickered there, that fragile light, A dream that danced just out of sight. I reached, I begged, I bled, I tried — But fate just watched and stepped aside. I held it once — a moment’s grace, Then watched it vanish, left no trace. Like sand it slipped, like wind it fled, And left me hollowed, full of dread. But almost — almost left me ethered, Between the lines of lost and weathered. Not quite alive, not fully gone, A ghost of hopes I built upon. Each heartbeat aches with silent screams, Each night rewinds unfinished dreams. You’ll never know the pain it costs To almost have… then feel it lost. So here I stand — the door now closed, By what I nearly once had chose. And if you ask what broke me most: The almosts I had held so close.
