The Abyss
In the cradle of silence, the needle hums, A whispered promise, a beating drum. Amber liquid, a fleeting glow, A stairway down where shadows grow. The mirror cracks; reflection fades, A soul consumed in endless shades. The serpent coils, its venom sweet, With every kiss, it claims defeat. Dreams dissolve in a powdered haze, Hope extinguished in poisoned veins. The whispers grow louder, a siren's call, Begging to leap, to end it all. The bottle’s hollow, the pills are spilled, The fleeting comfort, the hunger filled. But deeper yet, the void remains, An aching maw that feeds on pain. No dawn to break, no sun to rise, Just endless echoes of muted cries. A final plunge, a silent scream, An eternal rest in a dreamless dream. The world turns on, but shadows stay, Where addiction whispers, and souls decay. In its embrace, all light will die— A fleeting high, a final goodbye.
