That Knock
That knock, its thumping rattles through me like a freight train rushing by my side, and I fear that it will pull me to the tracks. That knock, It is a hammer meant for a nail, that shifts a breath beyond its target, and I fear it will come crashing down on me. That knock, it is the feedback from a speaker when the microphone's too close, and I fear my ears will burst and ring with blood. That knock, It is the sudden clash of thunder, that jolts your soul through your skin and I fear my heart will beat too fast and then never beat again. That knock, It is the myoclonic jerk that shatters me from slumber, and I fear that I may never rest in peaceful sleep thereafter. That knock is the whisper in the silent night. The tapping at the walls, and I fear this unseen entity will haunt me until I fall. That knock, it is the shiver of uncertainty that pulls me from obscurity, and I wish that I could crawl into a deep, deep hole and never have to hear again… That knock.
