Thank You
My Father taught me to be strong, To keep my chin up, to stand tall. Mother taught me right from wrong, made sure I knew I belonged, How to get back up when I fall. My older sister taught me to fight back, That I wasn't a toy you could just smack. I didn't learn much from my brother. He taught me that the world was colder. Family gets credit from making us who we are, We never here about the homeless man outside the bar. His story teaching us to be kind, The stories segmenting into our minds, We're not told about the woman at the store, Waiting anxiously to see if she can buy her groceries or if she needs more, Nor are we told about the one who helped her pay, Told her to take it and be on the way. Small things make us who we are. You hear thanks to Mom and Dad, to Sister, to brother, But you don't hear thanks to the strangers who made us how we are.
