Surface pressure
You took her from her past, You took her from the ones who took her first. You put her in the middle of the ocean. She floated until she couldn't keep it up. The water became thicker. So you pulled her up above the surface and taught her how to kick her legs to stay afloat for longer. She got tired, and slipped below once again. You held her hand and pulled her up once more. This time, her head stayed wet and heavy and she got water in her lungs. It weighed her down but she tried to learn how to breath again, albeit not well. She failed to keep up once more, but this time she slipped so far down you didn't even catch it at first. You let her flail around a bit but never tried to help her out. You just sat and watched and shook your heads. How can she not have learned by now? You tell yourselves that. But she has been below the surface ever since, sometimes being able to kick her legs a bit. But how could she ascend if she never learned how to use her arms? How can she ascend when she never was taught what it takes to stay up above the surface?
