Sunfishing (part 2)
8 Is there a scale where our living outruns, The crawling persistence of smaller ones? We claim we are thinking, aware, reserved, refined, Yet follow the patterns already known and designed. 9 Most of what I do, is what I see, I like what surrounds, so it shapes what’s me. I borrow habits, inherit their form, Call it choice, perhaps it just keeps me warm. 10 This sea extends past reason or hue, I stay afloat, no command has perfect clue. Survival persists as an unspoken rule, The water is still, empty, relentless, and full. I could stain it red, make it greener, or let it be blue, Or leave it unchanged, as all living do. 11 I am simple, unknown to my core, I don’t ask what I am or what I’m for. Among this crowd, its waste, like a borrowed source, I swim on power, gathered by nature's force. 12 Not what was judged as worthy or right, Just what endured on those longest nights. Barely living, but living sound and still, Held upright by a some leftover will. 13 I can’t recall who I used to be, Nor forecast the self that awaits for me. I decline change when it asks just my name, Not fearing loss, just fearing that unknown shape.
