Summer Sigh
What can cause a summer sigh? That long exhale that doesn't lie. It's not shortness of breath; nor a glimpse of summer's death; not a fantasy, nor a tease; nor a failure to please; not someone walking on a grave; no opportunity to be brave; not, perhaps, a final chance for a summer-time romance; a daydream in the summer sky; nor, even time to say goodbye. Yes, the sigh could simply be from a soft-sad, plaintive memory: of a somber thought from the distant past; of a purloined love that didn't last; of a sensual kiss, a soft caress; or, of carnage wrought by a careless "yes." But perhaps there is no reason why, save all those summers going by.
