You shush me When my breath is barely above a shudder When the engine is louder than it all As if you're listening for a quivering lip You blame the passing streetlights Assaulting your sleep and peace On me and no other Joseph takes up all the space Barely an inch left for me to think His elbow protrudes as much As his body is lanky Suddenly, I'm picking at the grass again A warm spring day Alone with only a worm And the blatant snickers of their cult Joseph runs a finger along my palm It tickles in a starving way As your stomach eats itself away After a long night Joseph tells me my hands Are almost as soft as Wyeth's My memory is vague in all But his touch in this moment Joseph is the only one here I'm sure isn't glaring as I write this But mainly only because He's finally asleep And I know this time it's our fault And I'm no victim That's why I'm scared to blink, Scared one wrong move Could grant you a predecessor
