Stars
My grandson loves to watch the stars. As he looks up into the sky tonight, he peers out from his mother's arms to see them twinkling oh so bright. Pointing up into the heavens' light, he asks her how far away they are. Her eyes sweep along his gaze; he's aiming at some distant stars. She told him they were far away, although they might look near. He asked again, how far, because to him, her answer wasn't clear. She then replied, "Too far to drive," and, "We can't get up there from here." Apparently, that was enough because he just looked up into the atmosphere. And then, having said, what, to a three-year-old, could best be said; his mom turned him toward the house, his room, and his soft, warm bed.
