Staring at the Sun
In the time it takes to blink, it was over. A new day waited only hours away, yet time stood still. A year passed before the clock began to move again. Longer still before trust found its way back. Longer than that before the wound you left began to heal. No scar has ever settled so deep in me. No darkness I have faced has felt so absolute. The love I held for you was a light so bright it blinded me. Now I know I was staring at the sun. All I believed was real was illusion. All I thought was mine turned to sand. I survived this pain unmedicated, bare-handed. And now nothing will ever take me from myself again. All that I was, all I did for you, I now do for myself. Though our lives were once tangled, I see clearly now, I am better without you.
