soul's blood
I watched as your green eyes lost their softness, How they changed from calm jade to a forest caught on fire. And I watched on my front porch as you threw yourself into your car. Then, as the engine started, you took out a gun and shot me in the chest. The wound grew into a gaping hole. My heart poured out of my ribcage and rolled down the driveway, my soul bleeding out on the flower bed. I stayed there for a few minutes, my knees soaked in my own shame, my eyes melt out of their sockets. My grief stood next to me and watched me fall apart. She picked up my breaking heart and handed it to me. I hold my hopeless heart in my hands. I looked up at her, grabbed my other hand, and held it. I wiped my shame stained face and stumbled back into the house. I stand in the foyer. Now it's my rage next to me. My body feels powerless, my brain ready to explode. I feel my shoulders tense up and my legs straightened, my anger digging into my gut.
