Sometimes Too Hot Dugout
It was hot in the dugout sometimes But whenever you'd softly chirp my name I could only give a sideways glance You called for me again till I looked over A sunflower seed bounced off my chest Another soon landed on my cleat You'd give me that stupid crooked smile of yours And all I can give back was my wheezy laugh Just two dumb broken kids Falling in love in that sometimes hot dugout Spitting sunflower seeds Our crooked smiles and wheezy laughs Our cracking and horse voices cheering together Singing out of tune songs in your shitty car Snoring and groaning on the cramped bed together Sniffling and coughing when we got sick Stumbling and puking when one of us got too drunk We didn't have to be perfect Not in that sometimes too hot dugout
