soft hands, guarded heart
I see the light in every face, Even when shadow stain the space. The world has bruised me, left it's mark, Yet I still reach into the dark. I tell myself there's good inside, Though truth has burned me more than twice. I patch holes, excuse the flame, Pretend that hurt is just a game. But love says, careful, can't you see? They weave their chains so easily. And though my heart is stitched in gold, It's threads are fraying, growing old. So maybe kindness can remain, But wrapped in strength, not bound in chains. To see the best, yet guard my soul - That's how I keep my heart whole.
