Sisyphus pt. 2 - Persephone
I, too, was tricked by that man. He came to me hiding a cruel plan. He said his wife threw his body on a road's shoulder. How could I have known it was a request he had told her? I sent him back up to enact his revenge, But he had lied and came back to life instead. But worry not, god of gentle death. Sit back and let us do the rest. He may think he's gotten away with what he's done, But the climax to his tale has only just begun. Because no one can outrun death when they're older. When he faces us once more, he'll be punished with a boulder. He'll go up and up with the rock as he struggles, Only for him to a watch as back down it tumbles. We'll get Hermes to lie, that psychopomp. Say he'll get his life back at the top. So he'll push to achieve something untrue, And tricking us will be a mistake he'll rue. He'll stay down here, with his impossible chore, As mortals discuss his happiness forevermore. We'll laugh and laugh as up he'll trod. He'll serve as another example not to mess Chthonic gods.
