Sirens
Everytime I hear the sirens wail The flash of red and blue lights the chime of the end of one's time. I always find myself wondering if they had sung for you too. If when you passed you finally remembered all the things you couldn't. And if you were alone If you were hurt that we weren't there with you. That we couldn't keep you at home with us. And I wonder if they put you in a body bag. If any of the others in that nursing home knew or saw. If the nurse who found you was kind or if they came too late. If the medic bothered to try and keep the zipper from snagging on your red hair. And selfishly I wonder If it would have been better for me if I had been there. Or if it would have been worse. Maybe then I would at least know if there were sirens or not.
