silent scream
I try to scream, I try to speak, But silence is the only sound I make. No voice emerges, though my throat is weak, A soundless cry for a consuming ache. I'm pulled beneath A drowning unseen by the passing eye. I try to run—a promise I can't keep— My wrist is seized; I cannot say goodbye. I search within, to find my voice again, To reclaim words that slipped into the void. It falls to stillness, filled with ancient pain, A final refuge tragically destroyed. I try to hide, but the shelter fails to stand, I try to scream, and still, the air is thin. I try to lift the witness from my hand, But find the same trapped scream held deep within. To tell the truth, to whisper what transpired, I reach for breath, years turning into dust; The scream remains, within my chest retired, A soundless, timeless prison of untrust.
