silent battles
They say we’ve come so far, they say we’re free, Yet voices fade where they should rise and be. One right lost, then two, then more, As shadows creep across the floor. Each inch we gained, with sweat and pain, Seems washed away like lines in rain. We marched, we fought, with courage fierce, Yet walls rebuild, our voices pierced. Our bodies — ours? They claim it’s so, But choices narrow, freedoms go. Laws drawn tight like heavy chains, Stealing lives and birthing pains. We are the strength, the heart, the light, Yet darkness crowds to steal our sight. One step forward, pulled two steps back, The weight grows heavy on our track. Yet even bound, we rise again, A thousand voices to defend. We stand, we shout, we will not flee — For freedom’s song won’t end with me. (if you couldn't tell, i wrote this about the things going on with trump and womens rights)
