Silence
They say it is deafening, unbearable and horrifying. People play music, turn the tv on or talk to themselves out loud to avoid it. It is supposedly followed by loneliness, an emphasis of absence, an eternal set of seconds before relief. Many like it, but it bites into you and doesn't let go, sinking its teeth, clenching the jaws until you feel it. Ephemeral pain, emotional.
