shallow
Shallow, they tell me. Shallow is what you are. But they haven't seen how deep I've drowned in those shallow waters. For if they did, they'd wish they never asked me to tread water that deep. Swim, they tell me. But I dip my feet instead. They haven't seen me sink despite my efforts. For if they did, they'd never let me touch water. Float! Go with the flow. Let the river take you home, they tell me. Still I drown. Nobody feels the weight on my shoulders. For if they did, they'd understand why I sink in these shallow waters. Being shallow does not make me shallow. I'm shallow because I choose to be.
