shadow
We used to share a language made of light, Two mirrors angled, keeping back the night. But the glass has splintered, the silver’s peeled away, And I am left with the debt I didn't know I’d pay. It’s an intense, serrated ache; the ghost of a laugh, The brutal math of a circle torn in half. I regret the secrets I poured into your palm, Thinking your stillness was a sign of holy calm, When it was only a vacuum, a hollow, a theft, Taking every vibrant thing until there was nothing left. The realization doesn't hit like a sudden spark; It’s a slow, cold drowning in a familiar dark. I held onto the memory of who I thought you were, While the present turned into a grey and lonely blur. I was fighting for a bond that had already died, Choking on the loyalty you used as a place to hide. The silhouette you left behind is cold and hollow, A path of emptiness I no longer choose to follow. The pain has finally taught me what I should have known: I wasn't standing with someone; I was standing alone. I finally realised black is a shade and not a colour Just like you were always a shadow.
