It takes an immense courage to know one's toll The pain and sorrow that start to unfold Explaining self-harm is hard to do For many, it's not something they want to pursue Despite the hardships that can take control There are individuals, scared and lost, that take their toll Cuts and bruises may come and go But for some, those marks, never seem to show Explaining how and why is almost impossible Living in a world that's vulnerable You don't see, they are hindered by so much fear Blocking out the reality that could be so clear Those that self harm rarely want it to show For them, it's a way to cope, what they know A fear of judgement is commonly hard to bear Which may leave them with only one choice to share If you don't get it, you'll never really know It's like you're drowning and someone throws you a rope, as you hold onto it so tight that it starts to hurt you but in the moment of time you could care less about the pain and scars you will get the only important thing is that you survive. That's what it's like with Sh, you're just trying not to give up The lasting anguish and pain they bear alone But it's important to reach out and take a stand Support, listen, and help understand.
