Screen (shortened version)
I sit behind a screen Looking at a better life Wishing for these things I know won't never be mine Hoping for a future But I know its not for sure I'd be able to breathe Looking at the news Want to do something Got nothing to loose For them its everything Can't seem to escape the feeling No ones on my side Its like they don't even see The hurting and the fight How we no longer belive Loosing empathy For man and all their dreams I used to wish the same But now with all the pain I know its selfish to want those things "What are you?" They ask the girl, don't know she's now a woman. "White, black, Hispanic what's your race? Who are you based on your color, your body and face?" But she says "I am not a girl. I am not white, nor Hispanic or of my roots, I am a human who deserves rights, not due to my body, culture, religion. Because I'm a person with thoughts and opinions" Stop teaching kids race and gender means anything other than a natural thing That's part of them, yes, but not them entirely So the people who cant see Choose to look away Or want to control me for any of these things Don't want to settle with conversation They do it with guns, laws, fear, and those damn screens
