Saved You
Perhaps ironically, it was when I was focused hardest on keeping us both safe, that I killed you. It was raining, the pavement was wet, And you saw it coming sooner than I did. I could not respond in time, and instead of stopping, we just slid. Even then, in the midst of the wrecking, you tried to save me. You spared no expense. I walked away with bruises, and you never moved again. The next day, I drove to see your corpse in the graveyard. Your bones were brittle and sharp. Bent, broken, they cut through my fingers, and it felt like karma, like I deserved it. You were already rusting through the slits in your paint, by the time I had to leave you.
