Ruined by love
I never thought someone could be my home. I have always had people of my own people I care about, people I cherish, people I love. But I’ve never loved someone who took my breath away. Like how you penetrated my soul and broke down my walls every day. And you didn’t just loved me, you entered me, softly, deeply, like you knew exactly where my walls were weakest. And every day, without force, you took them down. Without you beside me, I’ve always felt heartbroken. My soul ached in places I can’t explain, and my cheeks find it hard to smile,.like they have to be convinced to exist. And the little things you do undo me in ways that never asked to be remembered, and made me want to spend my life with you. Is it the way you cleaned up after me, or when you kissed me even though I can feel my morning breath, and you say, “Babe, you don’t have any odour”? Is it when you folded my clothes, even when I am not tired, or when you called to ask what we will eat, and how you made me lazy by cooking? You made rest feel safe. You made softness feel allowed. You taught me how to love, how to care. You taught me the difference between loving and being in love, between being wanted and being chosen.
