Roses & Thorn Bushes
You came to me, seeing beautiful roses and things unseen by others You stuck by me and nurtured me, treated me so delicately, and caressed me Only to have me bite back, pricking you each time you got a bit too close Yet you still stand by me, treating me with the same delicate touch from the first time. You try to prune my thorns, slowly clipping them, hearing me cry in pain, and retaliating But you still stay, helping me to become better. Others came too, doing the same, wanting to see me grow, and yet I wither and hurt with each passing day. I do not deserve such mercy and kindness, but you continue to show it to me. You continue embracing me despite the pain I've doled out to you and others. I am a thorn bush with roses, but slowly, you are trying to make me a rose bush with thorns. I was blind for so long, and I only recently saw that, after all the pain I cause, what I truly am. But you still help, a thorn bush grow roses. Though not a fruitless effort, it will take a long time. Will you stay with me after all these bites? I hope so.
