Quiet wonders
A flower blooms in the rain, No eyes to see its grace. But the scent it softly spreads Fills the empty space. A breeze comes through the gate, Though no one called its name. It plays with the old wind chimes- Each note never the same. A river hums at night To stars that never sleep. Its songs are never loud, But sink into us deep. A kite stuck on a tree Still dances in the air. The string may not be whole- But dreams are floating there. A candle in the dusk Shines though no one stays. Even shadows bend a bit To listen to its blaze. A footstep in the sand Fades before it's found. But the warmth it left behind Still lingers on the ground. A child once drew the sky With crayons blue and bold. The sky is gone from the wall- But not from what we hold. A name once carved in bark Is now half lost in time. Yet in the rustle of those leaves It whispers like a rhyme. A bird with broken wing Sings softer than the rest. But in its quiet ache, There beats a louder chest. So much we cannot see Still touches us somehow. The world may turn away- But the heart remembers now.
