Punished for Everything
Some people don’t know how to receive forgiveness because they were punished for everything they ever did. They grew up learning that mistakes meant distance, that love could be taken away, that grace was a reward, not a gift. So even when God says “You’re forgiven,” they flinch. They wait for the consequence, the cold silence, the look of disappointment. It’s hard to rest in mercy when you were trained to earn it. Hard to believe in love when pain was your teacher. But healing begins in learning that forgiveness isn’t a transaction. It’s a Father’s embrace. It’s love that doesn’t walk away, even when you fall. And maybe, just maybe, the hardest thing isn’t asking for forgiveness, it’s believing you deserve to be held after being punished for so long.
