Prison Without Walls
For over ten long years you have called my name, A silent thief, yet never dressed the same! You crept inside before I really understood, Then turned my every "could" into "I should!" By twenty-eighteen the walls became my sky, The world outside was a place where dreams could die! Each open road was like a poisoned sea, While home transformed into my prison key! My racing heart convinced me death was near, Through every test there was no fear! I wore a smile while I was drowning out of sight, Pretending every day I had won the fight! You have stolen birthdays, moments, years and so much more, You have chained my footsteps to my own front door! You've taught my mind that safety comes through chains, Then laughed while echoing through all of my veins! But here's the truth you never could erase, I'm still alive despite your cold embrace! You've taken much & yet still I stand today, And that alone means you did not win the day! By Rachel Barber xoxo
