Pretend
In crowded halls where laughter rings, I wander through the web of things. Their smiles greet me, bright and wide, But hidden truths lie deep inside. They gather close, all warmth and cheer, But in their eyes, I sense the sneer. They speak of friendship, soft and sweet, Yet plot and whisper, light on their feet. When I’m not looking, they twist my name, Their words like daggers, fueling their game. In every glance, I see the ruse, A shallow bond I can’t excuse. Their kindness fades when I’m not there, Replaced by whispers thick with air. I hate the way they play pretend, Acting like friends, but never friends. So I stand apart, with truth in hand, Choosing to walk my own solid land.
