Plumage
Plumage by Jack A.S. Dunce I preen prim my bright outer feathers To bring out its highlight as though chiseled To show I've survived even bad weather, Though my down feathers are plainly ruffled. I flew for miles on end to far off lands To sift through thorny bushes for gold tiles The ones you like, with those shimmering brands; Through bleeding gums, I put on a sweet smile. With the stage set, I dance to the world's tune -- Perform through the pain a contrived ballet. But with a single step that's not attuned, You immediately look the other way. At day's end, when there's nothing more to see, When I shed my plume, would you still choose me? --🌼-- ©️pgmr 03/18/2026 *Inspired by an irksome remark of an acquaintance. In defense of all of us who are too tired and weary of this world's BS.
