Pink
I hated the color pink I always thought it was too girly Too fragile and weak and frilly I hated sparkles and glitter too I grew up playing football in the streets with boys Throwing each other on the concrete Barreling through thorn bushes Constantly covered in scabs and wounds I was tough, I was loud, I was strong I wasn't girly and soft I didn't like makeup and hair bows That just wasn't for me I needed to be a man for my dad He needed a hunting buddy Someone to rock climb and ride rollercoasters with That was me But I learned to be a woman for my mom too She needed a gossip buddy Someone to paint nails and go shopping with That was me Even though I still hate pink And I hate sparkles and glitter I love my nails painted And love the way dresses look when they twirl Although whenever I decide something, I ask myself, is this too girly? For even though I'm a girl I can't shake that I'll be seen as something less Every day I decide will I be a man or a woman Tie my hair up in a knot, or delicately curl it Wear a shirt three sizes to big or a mini skirt Or maybe something in-between? I will never like pink It's just not for me Even though I'm a girl I can be what I want to be
