Piano Man
You're not a kid in band You're a band kid You play alto sax Among many other things But what I love watching you do most Is playing the piano Your long hands artfully dance across the keys You look so focused But also like your having so much fun You're so incredibly talented, it hurts me But what I love even more Is when you teach me about piano When you sit down next to me at the keys Or invite me to sit by you And explain the difference between major and minor cords And what resolving means You quiz me, and tell me good job when I get it You giggle and show me again when I don't You stretch your arm across me When you need a higher note And lean in a little in my direction I look to your eyes, to see your concentration But you're already looking at mine And I fight to hold eye contact Until you look back down at your hands Floating down the piano You tell me that you want to be a songwriter And I say you're the most talented person I've ever met And that you could do whatever you want With that brilliant mind of yours You continue your perfect improvised tune And I'm locked in a transe Of the piano man
